This page sets out how articles on philiphall.com are researched, written and corrected. It exists so that readers, researchers and organisations can judge the material here on a consistent basis.
Purpose of the site
philiphall.com publishes independent analysis of Cyber AI, automation and cyber security. The aim is to explain what is happening in these fields, what the evidence supports, and what it means for organisations and professionals who have to make decisions about it.
Use of publicly available information
Articles are based on publicly available information. Sources include official disclosures, government and regulator publications, vendor security advisories, research papers, court and corporate filings, and reporting by established news organisations.
Preference for primary sources
Where a primary source exists, it is preferred and linked. A news report is used where it is the best available record, and it is attributed as such. Where a claim rests on a single report, this is stated in the article.
Verification of material claims
Material claims are checked against the sources cited before publication. This includes dates, vulnerability identifiers, statistics, deadlines and organisation names. Where a detail cannot be verified, it is removed, attributed as reported, or the article is not published.
Articles published before this page was created have not all been re-verified to this standard. A rolling review is under way, and this page will be updated as that work progresses.
Separation of fact, quotation, analysis and opinion
Each article aims to separate:
- Fact that is documented in a cited source.
- Quotation, reproduced as published and attributed to the person and venue.
- Analysis, which applies reasoning to the documented facts.
- Opinion, which is the author’s own judgement and is presented as such.
Simulations, evaluations, forecasts and hypothetical scenarios are identified as such, and are not presented as confirmed incidents.
Use of AI tools
AI tools may be used to assist with research, organisation, drafting and editing. They are not used to invent sources, quotations or technical detail.

Philip Hall reviews and approves every article published on this site before publication.
Confidentiality
No confidential employer or client information is knowingly published on this site. Articles do not disclose internal systems, programmes or non-public incidents, and the site does not speak on behalf of any organisation.
Independence
The views expressed on this site are my own and do not represent those of any current or former employer. Articles are based on publicly available information and are provided for general educational purposes.
Corrections
When an error is identified, or a credible source provides new information, the article is corrected or updated. Correction requests should include the article title or URL and the specific point in question, and can be sent through the contact page. Where a correction changes the substance of an article, the change is noted in the article.
Requests for comment
Organisations or individuals named in an article who wish to provide comment or context are welcome to make contact, and material responses will be considered for inclusion.
